About

Sharon The Artist

Sharon was born in Spearfish, South Dakota, and has been working toward a life in art from a very young age.

She studied at Black Hills State University — where she learned under renowned watercolorist Dick Dubois — and later continued her art education at Baylor University. She graduated summa cum laude in 2003.

Since then, Sharon has built a successful career as a freelance artist and illustrator, working across multiple mediums including watercolor, pencil, ink, and mixed-media sketching.

Her versatility has allowed her to work with nearly thirty private authors and corporations, illustrating around forty books and creating a wide range of commissioned artwork for clients around the world.

Although highly skilled in many mediums, Sharon is also an accomplished watercolorist. She has been a signature member of the Northern Plains Watercolor Society for over thirteen years and has earned numerous awards, including the Gold Brush Award (three consecutive years), Silver Brush, Bronze Brush, Merit Awards, the Juror’s Award, and the Dubois Memorial Award.

She has continued to refine her craft through workshops with leading artists such as Betty Carr, Stan Miller, and Morgan Samuel Price.

Her artwork has been featured in Watercolor Artist magazine (2016 and 2017), showcasing her gold-award-winning pieces. In 2016, she was the only South Dakota artist selected for the Midwest Artist Studios Project, highlighting her unique contribution to the regional art landscape.

Sharon was also interviewed on a PBS radio broadcast, where she discussed her artistic process, illustration work, and her involvement in the Northern Plains Watercolor Society.
